GU Surf Club

Glasgow University
Surf Club

Welcome to Glasgow University Surf (GUS) – the waviest club on campus! We run regular trips to surf spots around Scotland and abroad, host infamous weekly socials and organise fun training sessions back home in Glasgow. We're all about inclusivity and everyone is welcome, from pro shredders to total beginners!

This page gives an overview of our society but for more information and any FAQs head on over to our new website,

Social Events

Surf is one of the most socially active clubs, focussing on inclusion and integrating all year-groups. We run trips in Scotland (Taster sessions, MAC ATTACK, The Dolphin Inn Dunbar, East Coast trips) and huge trips abroad (Morocco in Winter, Spain/Portugal in Summer).

Here in Glasgow, we have a social every week – Thursday night at the pub followed by a club night to somewhere in town. Every second week we have a themed or games social like families (Ou Est La Poulet, Pub golf) or costume-themed (Hawaiian shirt), plus big events like the sub crawl, ceilidhs, Christmas dinner, Burns night and Halloween flat crawl.

These socials are a brilliant way to meet people in the society, even if you've got no interest at all in the sport itself!

Training & Competition

We compete in BUCS down in Cornwall every year and Scottish surf championships in Aberdeen, taking teams to support and represent the University.

To train on land, we organise a weekly session in Stevenson Building Studio 1 that varies from weight training to yoga and mindfulness sessions.

Loads of our members skate, and we run weekly professional surf skate lessons at the Uni to practise your pump on land. These are an amazing opportunity that we'd recommend to all our members. Read more about it at

Further Info

Membership allows you access to all our equipment (free board hire, a super subsidised wetsuit hire and roof racks in the shed), a free T-shirt (we run an annual competition for the design), weekly socials and access to all trips.

We're also one of the cheapest clubs in Glasgow as annual membership is just £25 for Early birds who join before the end of September or £30 at any other time throughout the year.

For anyone wanting to join for a single term it's only £15 for an Early bird membership and £20 if you join mid-term. Most importantly, unlike other clubs you only need to have an off-peak gym membership to join! For any freshers currently in Uni accommodation you already own one of these and £25 is the only thing standing between you and the waves!

For any questions regarding membership fees, feel free to message our Facebook page, Instagram or email our treasurer.

See you all out there!
