RICS Accredited Programmes
With over 130,000 qualified and trainee professionals, RICS promotes and enforces the highest international standards across the built and natural environment, and programme accreditation is part of this process. Accreditation is the process through which RICS works with education providers to recognise programmes relevant to a career in surveying and that support routes to professional qualification. RICS-accreditation demonstrates a globally-recognised standard of surveying education.
Being RICS-accredited means MSc Real Estate, MSc International Real Estate and Management and MSc City Planning & Real Estate Development programmes at the University of Glasgow have satisfied the basic criteria as set by the regulatory body, thereby allowing graduates to proceed to the RICS Assessment of Professional Competence following appropriate work experience. Graduates from our programmes will be able to become a chartered surveyor primarily as a member of Commercial Property; Residential Property; Valuation; Property Finance and Investment; Management Consultancy or Planning and Development Professional Group of RICS.
RTPI Accredited Programmes
The Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) is the accrediting body for the planning profession. Becoming a Chartered Member of the RTPI will enhance your career choices and ensure you make the best possible start in your future professional life as a planner. You will become a member of a dynamic community that works at the forefront of planning and advocates for best practice at the local, national and international level. A Chartered Town Planner designation will make you competitive in a crowded job market and is also required by many employers.
The planning education offered by the University of Glasgow is evaluated on a yearly basis by the RTPI as part of an accreditation process. This gives the University a mandate to deliver an approved education in planning through the MSc City Planning and MSc City Planning and Real Estate Development programmes.
On the successful completion of your degree you can apply for Licentiate Membership of the RTPI. This will mark your first step on the journey towards chartered membership through an Assessment of Professional Competency (APC). After entering the world of work, you will continue to develop your portfolio of skills and, within two years, will have the opportunity to apply for full Chartered Membership of the RTPI.
